Beschreibung
The subject of confessional law is the legal regulation of the status of individuals regarding the confession or profession of religious faith, as well as the legal regulation of the status of their religious collectives or confessions. Confessional law is part of the legal systems of individual states and the international community; thus, it is one of the branches of secular law. This distinguishes it from ecclesiastical law, which deals with the internal legal order of religious communities. The monograph primarily focuses on Czech confessional law. The authors aimed to encompass all its branches – they gradually address the assurance of religious freedom, the legal status of churches and religious societies and the legal entities derived from them, the role of religion in schools, armed forces, and prisons, the financing of churches, and a number of other topics. The authors also provide basic information about confessional law in some European countries and the United States of America. The concluding part is dedicated to Czech confessional law in the past: from the acceptance of Christianity to the present day. The cover features a motif of a ship with a cross sailing through turbulent waters, symbolizing the status of churches in today's tumultuous world, tolerance, and understanding among Christians of various denominations.
