Beschreibung

The ninth volume of the Battles and Fates of Warriors project is dedicated to the conflict between Great Britain and American colonists in the thirteen colonies, from which the United States of America was born during the war and the American Revolution. It tells the story from the initial disputes over taxes and political representation, the most famous of which, though not the only one, is the Boston Tea Party, but mainly focuses on the military confrontations from the first skirmishes at Lexington and Concord to the American-French victory at Yorktown. Dozens of battles are described here, from Bunker’s Hill near Boston to the capture of New York, the first turnaround at Princeton, and the American victory at Saratoga, the British offensive to Philadelphia followed by the battle at Monmouth Courthouse, battles fought in Georgia and both Carolinas (Savannah, Camden, Cowpens, Guilford Courthouse), as well as the naval battle in Chesapeake Bay, which foreshadowed the American victory at Yorktown. Among the fates of the protagonists, you will find the story of "the traitor of all traitors" Benedict Arnold and the British spymaster John André, who seduced him to betrayal. This is the first comprehensive book on the war for American independence in Czech, and the seemingly chaotic, territorially fragmented operations of both opponents are clearly interconnected here.
