Beschreibung
The story from the author's estate takes place in the Highlands during the last years of World War II. A young, inexperienced girl from the city arrives at a farm to be a governess for a four-year-old girl, partially replacing her sick mother. Eva experiences not only the cruelty of the Gestapo alongside her peers but also perceives the beauty of the countryside, the purity of nature, prosperity, and abundance. Love ultimately compels her to return to the city, where she, along with her mother, witnesses both the end of the war and a reunion with her beloved man.
