Beschreibung
The legions of the Roman Empire are the fourth volume of a five-part project on the military history of ancient Rome, this time dedicated to the events from Caesar's death to the last quarter of the 1st century AD. It covers the war between Octavian and Mark Antony against Brutus and Cassius, Caesar's assassins, which ended with the Battle of Pharsalus, the wars of the Second Triumvirate and its dissolution, followed by the conflict that culminated in the naval battle at Actium. We will witness the Roman defeat in the Teutoburg Forest as well as retribution and victorious battles fought against the Germans by Tiberius and Germanicus. We will trace the conquest of Britain and the uprising of Queen Boudicca against the Romans, march into Armenia with General Corbulo, and navigate the bloody struggle of three emperors who succeeded each other in a single year. The final part of this volume is filled with the immensely bloody and fierce Jewish War, which ended with Titus's conquest of Jerusalem and the destruction of the sacred temple.
