In addition to the defeat of the Roman legions at Carrhae, where Crassus, the victor over Spartacus, lost his life, it exclusively follows four major wars of Gaius Julius Caesar: the one with the Gauls, nearly concluded with victory over Vercingetorix, the civil war with Gnaeus Pompey, the war in Egypt that brought Caesar close to Cleopatra, the war in Africa against the still unbroken supporters of the now-dead Pompey, and the last war of Gaius Julius against Pompey's sons in Hispania.
