The spread of the new coronavirus disease in 2020 marked the beginning of an unprecedented era of pandemic and the challenges associated with it. A previously unknown illness began to affect people's daily lives in all its aspects almost overnight. The monograph COVID-19 IN PEDIATRIC CONTEXTS revisits this historically, medically, and socially significant period. It focuses on children and adolescents, that part of the human population that is rightly considered one of its most important components regarding the future of humanity as a whole. The book presents a unique and, in Czech literature, the first comprehensive view of COVID-19 in the pediatric population. Thanks to this publication, one can gradually gain insight into the etiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, and diagnostics of COVID-19 specifically in this age group. A significant part of the book is further dedicated to the manifestations of the disease, supplemented by several case studies. The consequences of anti-pandemic measures, prevention, and naturally reflections and future challenges are also discussed. Thus, interested professionals are provided with a tool for knowledge based on hundreds of expert publications, complemented by the author's personal experiences from his medical practice.
