Since time immemorial, people have been drawn to events that transcend the ordinary. In our lives, mundane events constantly unfold, confronted by extraordinary occurrences. The professions of firefighter, pilot, diver, explosives expert, animal tamer, or criminal investigator evoke curiosity and respect simply by their existence. A regular doctor in a resuscitation or trauma department experiences situations over a weekend that ordinary mortals often do not encounter in their entire lives. The medical profession itself offers a concentration of life events that are inaccessible to most of the population. A broken jaw, a cesarean section, or burns are extraordinary events for individuals who have undergone them. Autopsies in anatomical, pathological-anatomical, forensic, and pediatric settings, which are inaccessible to the general population, become banalities for medical students. It is common for participants to gather at a party after a medical conference, where they compete with each other over stories, sharing extraordinary and unique cases even for experts.
