The collection of texts by music journalist Jan Sobotka has one common denominator: roots. The exploration of their intricacies was the author's main guide. Whether it was black or white traditional music from the American continent or our countries, whether it was linked to the works of personalities that interested him and in whose creations he navigated like few others (Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and many others), or the reflections of those who, like him, dealt with these roots as collectors or performers. Jan Sobotka managed to work with sources, both musical and written, with scholarly expertise and incredible ease. The organizers of this volume hope that Jan's own texts will also become a similar source for those who wish to discover and experience the perhaps 'old' but still immensely vibrant, influential, and enriching music. The anthology was prepared for publication by Ondřej Bezr and Tomáš Lavický.
