To nejdůležitější o panu Moritzovi / Klíč je pod rohožkou – Třešňák Vlastimil (2021)

The novella by Vlastimil Třešňák, "The Most Important Thing About Mr. Moritz" and his novel "The Key is Under the Doormat" connects the character of the hero – Mr. Moritz – inspired by the real person, Třešňák's friend Václav Martínka from German exile in the 1980s. While the novella was first published in an exile publishing house, the novel "The Key is Under the Doormat" with the subtitle "Puzzle" became a literary sensation back home in the early years of freedom. It takes place in Germany and the United States during the 1980s and at the very beginning of the 1990s in Prague. One of its heroes is Třešňák's friend, photographer Bohumil "Bob" Krčil, with whom we – based on reality – also travel to Afghanistan. And it is precisely Krčil's apartment in New York, under whose doormat lies the key from the title of the book... The novel bears the dedication "With a little help from my friend B. K." and is a touching tribute to this extraordinarily sensitive person, a great photographer, and an outstanding exile editor. At the same time, it is an entertainment and a series of stories from Mr. Moritz, reminiscent of Hašek's characters, but also a period depiction of life in Czechia at the beginning of the 1990s.
