Baron Trenck - Nová tvář legendy – Urbanová Petra, Vachůt Petr (2020)

The most famous prisoner of Špilberk, the commander of the pandurs Baron František Trenck, died on October 4, 1749. He had himself buried in the tomb of the Capuchin monastery in Brno, where his body naturally mummified. This book summarizes the results of research from a unique three-year project, during which Trenck's mummy was examined by an interdisciplinary team of specialists using the most modern methods of forensic anthropology, forensic medicine, and molecular biology. The individual chapters reveal what could be discovered about the elite soldier of the mid-18th century using contemporary scientific methods and how this information helped in reconstructing Trenck's face and entire body. It should be noted that the 3D reconstruction of his likeness was one of the first in the world to be created entirely digitally and also animated. The book pays tribute to an extraordinary historical figure with a close connection to the city of Brno and serves as an example of successful collaboration between historical, natural, and technical scientific disciplines in understanding our past.
