Beschreibung
The life of Mikuláš Teich was literally as long as a century. He was born during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and grew up in Masaryk's Czechoslovakia, which he never ceased to admire. Nevertheless, he left the republic twice. The first time in 1939 due to his Jewish heritage - traveling by train from Ružomberok with a false passport. The second time in 1968 due to his Marxist beliefs - by train from Smíchov Station in Prague just a few days after the Soviet invasion. Each time, his new home became Great Britain. Although he never stopped regretting that he did not become a doctor in Prague, in Britain he became a founding member of the youngest college at the University of Cambridge, Robinson College. He collaborated and befriended the most prominent world figures in his field - the history of natural sciences. In post-war Czechoslovakia, his fate dramatically intersected with the fates of the most powerful representatives of the communist regime and its reformers.
