At a one-day thematic seminar held at the Motol University Hospital in Prague, specialists from various medical fields gathered to present the latest professional insights and exchange experiences in the treatment of intestinal failure in children and the modern management of this emergent situation. The main topics included the past and present of parenteral nutrition, surgical therapy for intestinal failure, options for intestinal transplantation as well as combined transplantation of intra-abdominal organs, pharmacological treatment of children with short bowel syndrome using teduglutide (a synthetic analog of glucagon-like peptide 2), and last but not least, the issue of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. All contributions from this professional meeting, enriched with visual and tabular documentation, are presented in the sixth volume of the Motol Pediatric Seminars series, titled Intestinal Failure in Children - Etiopathogenesis and Therapy.
