Beschreibung
This slim book records the story of Czech doctor Eva Hnízdová, who decided to emigrate to Great Britain during the normalization period. In London, she worked as a family doctor for nearly thirty years. The hardships of leaving communist Czechoslovakia and the difficult beginnings across the 'Channel' are now, in the era of open borders and free movement of people, a thing of the past. But that is precisely why her story is worth reading. It reminds us of how absurd the regime was back then and what courage and diligence those who wanted to start a new life in the West had to demonstrate.
