Beschreibung
The memories of Czech doctor, Professor MUDr. Jan Petrášek, DrSc., cover the entire twentieth century. They begin with a period that the author knows from the stories of his parents and grandparents, and end in the year 2000. Few can today imagine how medical studies were conducted after the war, how treatment was administered in a small hospital and in a rural general practitioner's office in the 1950s, how the medical faculty operated, and especially the famous Charváta internal clinic at a time when Professor Petrášek was still a young assistant. Jan Petrášek has accomplished much for Czech medicine over more than sixty years at one clinic, successfully treating patients, publishing, and significantly influencing several generations of medical students. He lived his long and varied life through seven periods - pre-war, wartime, post-war, totalitarian, the liberalization of 1968, normalization, and the time after November 1989. He has now compellingly written about what those times were and are - and it is truly interesting reading.
