Informed consent from the patient is currently an essential part of any healthcare service provision. It is an act that has a very broad context, not only legal, as it is predominantly perceived today. Despite the relatively extensive literature on the topic, the issues associated with the application of informed consent in medical practice are significant. In many cases, the way informed consent is implemented has become merely an administrative act, completely distanced from its original purpose and meaning. This publication summarizes the issues of informed consent in the broadest contexts - ethical, legal, psychological, and clinical. It focuses not only on general ethical and legal topics but also discusses the specificities of informed consent in various fields of medicine, or addresses specific topics in practical terms - for example, informed consent for children, the elderly, individuals with sensory impairments, etc. The presented publication currently represents the most comprehensive work on this serious topic and is intended not only for doctors and healthcare professionals but also for representatives of other related fields.
