Today's film recording technologies are constantly evolving, yet all creators still grapple with age-old questions: Why compose music again and again for increasingly standardized films? How does the composer, the film's director, or the viewer perceive the film? Where does universal sensitivity intersect with the egoism of creative passion? Do they enrich each other, or do they merely parasitize on the contemporary and fashionable? The author of the book began writing music for children's animated films at a time when he was not allowed to perform publicly as a folk singer. As an experienced professional musician, he knows how to play improvised instruments and has mastered studio work. He gained deeper insight into the nature of a composer's work later when he started sharing his experiences with students at FAMU, where encounters with a live musician often significantly helped them navigate the world of tones.
