The collection of columns you hold in your hands represents the crème de la crème of my long-standing regular communication with readers. During my tenure as editor-in-chief at Reflex (1995 to 2008), I addressed the world with my notes on the margins in editorials week after week, trying to perceive it in all its breadth and diversity. I continued to publish my opinions under the title 'The Eighth Day' even after leaving the editorial office. At my new position at Literární noviny, I did not stop formulating my views, and over time, more and more readers began to approach me suggesting that I should compile my texts into a book, as they would quite like to browse through them.
