Beschreibung
The Life and Work of the Master of Modern Prose. The first Czech monograph dedicated to the work of one of the most significant authors of the modern novel, Philip Roth (1933—2018), summarizes the author's artistic career, attempts to organize his extensive work, and captures the individual creative stages associated with changes in themes and partially in style. The book offers an interpretation of key prose works, based on the search for typical Rothian themes, both from the perspective of a specific creative stage of the writer and of the entire body of work. Sýkora places Roth's work in a broader context of American literature, addresses its contemporary critical reflection, and does not shy away from seeking an interpretive key in the writer's life.
