Beschreibung
The work of Bohumil Hrabal (1914—1997) is today recognized not only as one of the dominant figures of Czech prose in the second half of the twentieth century but is also known in a European and global context. Leading expert on Hrabal's work, Milan Jankovič, selected a collection of the author's shorter prose for the Czech Library from the entire range of his prose creation from the early fifties to the nineties. However, the focus of the volume lies in the short stories and sketches from the fifties and sixties. Almost half a century after the famous Automat Svět (1966) with a foreword by Emanuel Frynta and collages by Jiří Kolář, another guiding selection from Hrabal's work has emerged, bringing his lively and valuable shorter texts.
