Slyším, že se liším / I Hear I´m Different – Ngo Veronika (2025)

This bilingual children's book is for those who have felt they do not fit in, and for those still searching for their place. Veronika Ngo sensitively and clearly explores the concerns of minorities around the world, presenting difference as something valuable and beautiful. Vanda is an ordinary girl, except that her mother is a fair-haired Czech woman and her father is a dark-haired Vietnamese man. Torn between the two cultures like a river crossing, she must decide whether to be swept away by the current or follow the Tiger, who shows her why she is the way she is and how strong and brave she can be. The author also created the original illustrations, inspired by traditional images from her Vietnamese father's homeland and by her other home, the Czech Republic. The text is in Czech and English and also helps readers practise simple English. Veronika Ngo studied art education and visual arts at Masaryk University in Brno and the University of Derby, and works in social media and marketing as well as managing the publishing house of Nepustil's Language School in Brno.
