Beschreibung
The collection "Voices of Jan Polkowski" is a solitary, unique poetic work that has no literary equivalent, and yet – like any cultural phenomenon – does not arise from a void. From a formal perspective, it is not just a mere poetic volume, but a coherent and thematically cohesive collection of poems. The cycle of eighteen poems is dedicated to the victims of the massacre in Polish cities on the Baltic coast in 1970, when the army and militia brutally suppressed demonstrations that erupted after the announcement of significant food price increases. Forty years after these events (in 2012), the poet created a memorial for the workers from the shipyards and their families with his collection.
