In 1902, the French sculptor Auguste Rodin visited Prague and Moravia. This trip, associated with his then-largest foreign exhibition, was significant not only for the sculptor himself but also left an indelible mark on the place of his visit. It was crucial for the generation of painters and especially sculptors at the time, helping them clarify their path towards modern artistic direction, and it also foreshadowed the future orientation of our art scene towards French art. From what the contemporary artistic and social elite deemed important to showcase during this significant visit, one can infer much about the priorities and character of Czech society at the beginning of the 20th century. The publication systematically addresses the accompanying program prepared for Rodin. Based on new studies of archival sources (magazines, correspondence, personal archives, etc.), it also seeks to map out the reasons why Auguste Rodin came to Moravian Slovakia, where he visited the Exhibition of Slovak and Moravian Visual Artists in Hodonín and where, on the occasion of his visit, an almost "nationwide" celebration took place.
