Beschreibung
After the success of the novel Last Year – 1938, the acclaimed Austrian author also publishes selected short stories, which again demonstrate what a great and passionate storyteller she is. The year and place of birth of Ilse Tielsch – 1929 in Hustopeče, South Moravia – not only determined her life but also the themes she addresses. Idyllic childhood times with memories of parents and grandparents, natural bilingualism, pre-war nervousness and character breaking, the "hunt" on close neighbors who overnight became enemies, the war years, and what followed after them. The heroes of the stories have gone through the author's life, making them real, firmly rooted in the landscape and the time in which they live. Although the stories are "small" in scope, their content and plot make them grand. They are tales full of humanity, nostalgia, and a longing for the world to be right again as it once was. The stories have been translated with immense sensitivity and precision by another South Moravian native, Jarmila Červená (1933), who is also a painter and maps this region with a similar passion, poetry, and love. Two women who have experienced a lot understand each other perfectly, and thus a book has emerged that is sure to captivate readers.
