Beschreibung
Valuable memories from a prominent figure in literary, cultural, and social life. Antonín Přidal (1935-2017), a moderator, playwright, poet, and above all a brilliant translator (his translation of the book Mr. Kaplan Still Has Class is quoted by several generations of both young and older readers), presents his life in this book: formative childhood years in Moravia, university studies in the 1950s, a professional career at Czechoslovak Radio in the 1960s, and especially the normalization practices of a translator who fell out of favor after the Soviet occupation and could not translate under his own name. He also pays attention to the period after November 1989, particularly his work on the programs Z očí do očí and Klub Netopýr, dramatizations for theater stages, and his professorship at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. The text of the book was created based on the author's radio programs prepared by Olga Jeřábková, a long-time editor at Brno Radio. It is supplemented with memories from contemporaries, writers, and friends of Antonín Přidal, selected photographs from the family archive, documents, and unpublished poems.
