In the essays, speeches, and other texts in this volume, Jiří Gruša, as the Czech ambassador, minister, and later director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, comments on Europe after the fall of the Iron Curtain and its challenges. He offers a uniquely multifaceted and informed perspective on the mutual relations of Czechs, Germans, and Austrians and their modern milestones (the Czech-German declaration, the Czech Republic's accession to NATO and the European Union). However, he also presents his view on the history of Central European coexistence.
