Václav Hybš and Miloň Čepelka say about their book conversation: "We, the undersigned, have been meeting and chatting over the past months, even years. As time passed and the conversation branched out, various names came up, known perhaps to only one, but on the other hand famous, more famous, and the most famous, with whom the first of us, a musician, encountered on his travels across the republic and the world. His memories of meetings with them, including the consequences that sometimes followed, were so interesting that the second signatory suggested we turn them into a book.

The witness didn't want to hear that he couldn't do it and that two books about him had already been published, but as his memory offered up singers, fellow conductors, composers, arrangers, directors, sound engineers, photographers, painters, writers, filmmakers, actresses, and the changing powerful figures of the times with the ability to decide, permit, or prohibit – it was such a rich showcase of experiences that he eventually agreed. He still argued that he had never written anything but notes and that he was only willing to tell stories, but on paper, he said – this is a quote – 'you have to put that down!' With a clear intention that we wouldn't stray from pure truth and with the condition that curiosity knows no bounds and that we wouldn't be mindful of time, we set to work. We offer the result.
