Dopis Cyranovi – Maléřová Zuzana (2015)

Zuzana Maléřová welcomes us right at the beginning with a text titled Letter to Cyrano, introducing us to the world of her new book, full of unique letters. Some she called 'cyranovian,' or 'letters in representation,' which are those she wrote for many years on behalf of someone else. Thus, in her words, a daughter speaks to her mother, a woman to a man, a friend to a friend, a brother to a sister... The letters are addressed to personalities such as Táňa Fischerová, Naďa Konvalinková, Jana Synková, Nina Divíšková, Ivan Trojan, Ladislav Frej, Věra Galatíková, Jaroslav Dušek, and others. The second part consists of unsent letters that the author wrote for herself to her closest ones: family, friends, and those who have already passed away – Ota Pavel, Libuše Geprtová, Stella Zázvorková... These texts provide a strong entry into the author's personal life, but through her father, mother, husband, and children, they actually touch upon the experiences of us all. The third chapter features letters in verse – a poetic conclusion to the emotional and dramatic stories in the previous sections. The book, artistically presented, includes photographic illustrations by Vlad Bohdan from the series Shadow Plays.
