Beschreibung
From the extensive work of the giant of world literature Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832) stands out a dramatic text that the poet worked on intermittently throughout his life - Faust. However, less known is the chamber and embryonic form of this drama, sometimes referred to as the original Faust or Urfaust.
The story of Faust and Margarete was not written by Goethe as a famous and acclaimed genius, but as a young man, and he infused it with his strong compassion, desire for rebellion and experience, and faith in justice. The pivotal impetus was the condemnation and execution of a maidservant who, out of fear of public shame - we are in the second half of the 18th century - killed her newborn child. Goethe followed the course of the trial and execution, and this experience, along with other stimuli and inspirations, gave rise to the main characters of this still impressive and immediate horrific story about the abuse of others, about ruthlessness and punishment, about desire.
