By defending his dissertation Gogol and the English Novel of the 18th Century, Jiří Weil (1900–1959) completed his studies in Slavic philology and comparative literature at Charles University in 1928. The supervisor of the dissertation was Václav Tille, and the opponent was F. X. At the same time, some insights and reflections that became part of the dissertation were applied by Weil even before its writing in overview studies on Russian literature, which were published in periodicals and are part of volumes 1, 3, and 8 of the Collected Works. ***** The edition is supplemented with publishing apparatus and indexes. ***** K...
