Beschreibung
Seven studies on early Christian thought and the influence of ancient philosophical motifs on it. - The book, in six studies, turns to two prominent figures of late antique Christianity, Gregory of Nyssa and Aurelius Augustine. These authors of the fourth and fifth centuries largely shaped the form of Christian theology and philosophy in the following centuries in its Greek and Latin versions. It is very interesting to observe, in interpreting their work, not only the tradition of Christian thought in its inception but also the grasping and transformation of ancient philosophical motifs that occurs here. The concluding, seventh study is dedicated to a much later author, yet it is also a remarkable testament to the Christian reception of ancient questions, this time Abelard's interpretation of Porphyry's Isagoge.
