In the summer of 1949, a year after the declaration of independence of the State of Israel and the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians from their original homes, Israeli soldiers massacre a Bedouin camp in the Negev Desert. During the operation, they capture a young Bedouin girl, whom they rape, kill, and bury in the sand. Decades later, a Palestinian woman from Ramallah reads about this event in the newspapers and impulsively decides to learn more. Her fascination gradually becomes an obsession, not only because of the nature of the crime but also because it was committed exactly a quarter of a century before her birth. This is a minor detail that connects her own life with that of the murdered girl.
