Beschreibung
In the book Learning to Speak Again, the author summarizes the results of his long-standing interest in the issues of endangered languages and cultures of North American Indians. He first offers insight into the linguistic diversity of the world’s oldest Americans and presents the social, religious, economic, and other factors contributing to the decline of Indian languages. He then focuses on efforts aimed at revitalizing linguistic and cultural vitality and the reasons that justify this effort. Finally, he addresses the role of language and speech in American Indian literature, presenting everything in a popular-scientific form accessible to a wide readership. – Published with the support of the City Hall of Opava.
