In academic literature, it is sometimes stated that during the Protectorate, the radio mostly broadcast German plays. However, the reality is quite the opposite. During the occupation, radio created perhaps the largest 'laboratory' for so-called verbal creation, within which many original Czech plays with characteristic themes were produced and soon staged. The estimated number of original plays is at least three hundred, with creators in many productions employing innovative radio techniques. Thus, the Protectorate radio dramaturgy not only stimulated authorship, which primarily aimed to support national self-confidence, but also sought to develop dramatic radio discourse. A similar autonomization situation – albeit based on non-dramatic literature – is described, for example, by Pierre Bourdieu. Lenka Jungmannová's monograph is dedicated precisely to the autonomization process of original Czech Protectorate radio plays. The first part of the work consists of a theoretical study that addresses the phenomena of radio plays and productions. The second, historiographical part is filled with analyses of preserved original dramas, which are viewed in a broader literary-scientific context and structured according to genre specifics.
