The queer history of the Holocaust, that is, the question of same-sex desire among the victims of the Holocaust, remained a blank spot in historical research until recently. The reason is the widespread homophobia among both the victims and their survivors, which led to the voices of these individuals being largely erased from the archives. Anna Hájková's book offers the first attempt to capture the history of these silenced voices. In three chapters: an introduction to queer desire during the Holocaust, the dramatic story of Prague resistance fighter Irena Miller, and the fates of five queer Jewish teenagers including Anne Frank, the book People Without History Are Dust provides a well-founded insight into a long-hidden history that changes our understanding of Holocaust history.
