Beschreibung

The monograph Movement of Speech and Places of Discontinuity: Post-Analytic and Neo-Pragmatic Initiations in Literary Science turns to post-analytic and neo-pragmatic philosophy. These belong to the key currents of philosophical thought in the 20th century, and their focus on questions of language closely aligns them with literary theory. The individual chapters explore theories of speech acts (J. R. Searle, M. L. Pratt, J. H. Miller), terms such as radical translation (W. V. O. Quine), radical interpretation (D. Davidson), source metaphor (S. C. Pepper), terminal vocabulary, or normal and abnormal discourse (R. Rorty), the concept of meaning in R. Ingarden and J. Mukařovský, or reflections on Derrida's deconstruction from post-analytic and neo-pragmatic perspectives. The aim of the publication is to examine the possibilities that these theories, concepts, and terms open for thinking about literature, as well as to verify the potential of their use in analyzing literary discourse. The individual chapters focus on the disputes between F. X. Šalda and K. Čapek, the post-war studies of J. Mukařovský, the transformations of the vocabulary of S. K. Neumann, K. Teige, and V. Černý, or the essays and translations of M. Kundera. – Published in collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
