The book consists of four chapters. Czech aspect in a nutshell presents a brief summary view of Czech verbal aspect, attempting to introduce it in its complexity and in all contexts, discussing everything that falls under aspect, and relating it to all phenomena in Czech where possible. The aspectual non-pairing of verbs with do- implies a preceding similar/same action (and related questions) analyzes three aktionsart groups, whose common feature is that they imply a previous action that is similar/same as the action being directly expressed (to finish building a house; to add salt to the soup; the child has cried out). The aspectual non-pairing in Czech compared to Russian is based on the thesis of the relative obligation of choosing the aspectual form in Russian and, conversely, the relative freedom of this choice in Czech, and in this context, it verifies the hypothesis of a possible correspondence of this fact with the overall nature of the aspectual system of both languages – with a greater completeness of the inventory of aspectual pairs in Russian and its lesser completeness in Czech.
