The police intervention against demonstrators on November 17, 1989, took place right under the windows of the National Theatre, which once again – how many times in history! – symbolically became a witness to the beginning of social changes throughout the country. The book 'Revisiting the Path' tells the story of the National Theatre's Drama Company from the end of 1989 to 2015, tracing how social events were reflected in the theatrical organism and stage work. This dynamic period included the process of opening borders, property restitution, reopening the question of the relationship between Czechs and Germans, privatization, coming to terms with totalitarian regimes, rehabilitation of silenced artists, returns from emigration, the division of Czechoslovakia, financial crises, political scandals and government collapses, and entry into the European Union. The political events in the country were accompanied by a debate about the meaning and significance of the National Theatre in the flow of global changes. The tenures of three post-November heads of the ND Drama Company, Ivan Rajmont, Josef Kovalčuk, and Michal Dočekal, tell the story of searching for answers to the question 'What does the National Theatre mean to the nation?' as it evolved over 25 years of a free society.
