Beschreibung
The collection 'How to Write Transcultural Literary Histories?' contains selected contributions from the international conference organized on November 15-16, 2018, by the German-Bohemian team of the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The conference focused on the theoretical and methodological issues of writing the histories of multiple literary cultures in different languages that coexisted in the Czech lands. The collection includes contributions related to both medieval verbal production and the prominent 'long' nineteenth century up to the first half of the twentieth century, as well as a wide range of problematic areas (translation, cultural transfer, periodization, multilingualism, canon, regionalism, confessionalism) and theoretical and methodological approaches (postcolonial studies, transcultural theory, new historicism). In addition to its scholarly intent, this collection also aims to stimulate further debates on the form of future literary-historical synthesis of the literature(s) of the Czech lands across disciplines – Czech studies, German studies, and other philologies, as well as cultural studies or social and political history.
