Beschreibung
The Death of Jim Loney (1979) is the author's second prose work dedicated to the modern fates of the indigenous peoples of North America, following the novella Winter in Blood (1974). Jim Loney is of mixed white and Native American descent. Alienated from both communities, he leads a solitary and bleak life in a small town in Montana, filled with idleness and alcohol. In childhood, he was abandoned by both his mother and father, leaving him with only his sister Kate, who does not understand his world. And there is also his girlfriend Rhea, who longs to give Loney's life a new purpose. However, the only way to give meaning to his existence is to stop running from the past and try to find his true roots, even at the cost of losing his own life... Welch's prose, though not extensive, develops a poignant story about hopeless love and a life journey toward truth leading to self-destruction. – Released with the kind support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
