The new book by popular artist and ethnographer Kamila Skopová is a journey through the Czech lands, exploring its ethnographic regions. The individual chapters introduce selected areas and describe local customs, language, architecture, food, and clothing. Both material and spiritual folk culture have created countless expressions worthy of our interest, inspiring many famous personalities from the world of culture. Folk buildings, traditional costumes, songs, dance expressions and music, oral traditions and dialects, mutual relationships, customs and practices, rituals and ceremonies, ways of farming, folk artistic expression, and also folk cuisine – all of these have attracted the attention of many composers, poets, writers, and artists. After all, even Kamila Skopová, who has demonstrated her interest in this subject through more than a dozen popular and originally illustrated books. The publication 'Czech Lands, My Home' does not aim to scientifically address the study of our homeland; it merely seeks to spark the interest of the general public in these values; perhaps it will serve as an impetus for the first step on the journey to understanding the life of the Czech countryside in the past.
