Research on memory and trauma has established itself over the past thirty years as a productive and significant intellectual trend in a global context, involving not only various historical and cultural theoretical fields but also, for example, psychology and sociology. However, this area is still little known in the Czech environment; therefore, the aim of the comprehensive anthology Memory and Trauma from the Perspective of the Humanities is to introduce this research to the Czech public. The publication presents fundamental texts from all relevant directions and significant authors (J. C. Alexander, J. and A. Assmann, C. Caruth, S. Craps, A. Erll, K. Frieden, T. Habermas, M. Hirsch, A. Langenohl, D. Laub, C. Leggewie, P. Nora, L. Spitzer, P. Vermeulen, M. Weinberg, H. Welzer). Special attention is given to the concept of trauma, which has been little reflected upon in its individual, group symptomatic, and cultural usage. The anthology is thematically divided into four sections (Memory and Society, Memory and Trauma, Memory and Media Perspective, Politics of Memory) and concludes with a record of a discussion among prominent scholars titled Fragmentation and Salvation.
