The monograph presents the post-November 'new wave' of original Czech drama as a unique phenomenon: it examines it against the backdrop of the pan-European movement (New European Drama), notes its sources (British, German, etc. drama) and artistic influences (literature, film, television), tracks its presentation in the media (both academic and cultural magazines, radio, and possibly television and the internet), reports on events that accompanied the creation or staging of these plays, as well as activities that served to promote them (awards, festivals, etc.). The author also theoretically defines the issues under investigation and attempts to define the individual tendencies, genres, or types of plays within this drama; she particularly focuses on contemporary grotesque – so-called coolness drama, political drama, women's drama, 'documentary' drama, etc. In the overview conclusion of the first part of the book, she presents Czech dramatists from the youngest two generations. The second part of the work consists of six essays interpreting the works of the most significant authors of the 'new wave': Lenka Lagronová, David Drábek, Jiří Pokorný, Iva Klestilová (Volánková), Petr Zelenka, and Petr Kolečko.
