Beschreibung
This Czech-language collective monograph presents the borderlands of eastern Bohemia, including the Krkonoše, the foothills of the Krkonoše and the Broumov region, as a dynamic space where past and present continually overlap. It examines the post-war depopulation associated with the expulsion of the German population and subsequent resettlement, asking whether this process truly interrupted cultural continuity. Drawing on historical, anthropological and sociological approaches, the authors explore the relationship between population changes and cultural transmission, as well as the memory of the landscape, everyday life, the role of institutions and the ways different groups interpret the past and give it new meaning. The book moves beyond the simplified image of the borderlands as a rootless region and portrays them as a multilayered place where historical experience is reinterpreted and becomes part of contemporary identities.
