The publication maps nearly a century of development of the Polish ethnic group in the region of Cieszyn Silesia, in the broader context of mutual relations with other national groups, from the "Spring of Nations" to the Second World War. Within the defined time frame, the author seeks to approach particularly phenomena that are less known in the national context, not well processed in Czech historiography, and specific to Cieszyn. The work is divided into two main parts. The central theme of the first part is the birth and first century of existence of Polish education in the observed region. The issue is depicted in the broader context of overall national development and the situation abroad. Many of the described phenomena are subsequently demonstrated through examples of specific educational institutions in various parts of the region. The second part, with an emphasis on the Polish ethnic group, addresses the course of the Second World War in Cieszyn, which became a direct part of the German Reich. The key themes of this thematic section are the specific aspects of the German occupation of the region, Nazi crimes committed against the local population, resistance activities, and the course of local military operations at the beginning and end of the world war.
