What happens when, in 1935, in a picturesque town in Bukovina, where time flows slowly and waitresses speak more languages than contemporary professors, a tram derails? Chernivtsi, which no one would have called anything other than Cernau_i, Czernowitz, or Tschernowitz at that time, becomes the main character in a love story between a boy of German-Polish-Ukrainian descent and a Jewish girl. Thanks to a chance encounter between a young student and an old man, we witness a gripping narrative in which forgotten stories of people whose lives were interrupted by tumultuous history come to life through the memories of three narrators.
