Beschreibung
Animal Excentricum. An overview of the classics of philosophical anthropology is a survey publication introducing the basic directions and ideas of philosophical anthropology, one of the popular intellectual movements of the 20th century. It aims to fill the gap of missing or insufficient interpretative literature dedicated to this tradition, which is experiencing a revival of interest. A characteristic feature is the authors' effort to connect the research and findings of spiritual, social, and natural sciences in order to develop a unified idea of humanity that can then be practically applied to the organization of human institutions. The interpretation follows the leading figures of this philosophical movement and their either main works or key concepts. The chosen main representatives of philosophical anthropology are the purely philosophical Max Scheler, Helmuth Plessner, and Arnold Gehlen, as well as representatives of the more biological branch Jakob von Uexküll, Adolf Portmann, and F. J. J. Buytendijk. The basic concepts include person, spirit, world, enlightenment or Umwelt, interiority, life, action, speech, and others. The book aims to serve as a kind of introductory and educational text that could make philosophical anthropology in its classical form accessible to a wider audience.
