Beschreibung
The year 1923 marked the end of the existence of the multi-ethnic and religiously diverse Ottoman Empire. During the events of World War I, through expulsion, massacre, deportation, and genocide, approximately two million Christians lost their lives, and about the same number had to leave their homes. In the thematic block of this issue, we focus on the elimination of Armenians, Assyrians/Syrians, and Greeks, with articles about Polish lawyer Raphael Lemkin, Syrian, Armenian, and Greek literary memories of the genocide, issues with victim statistics, the tragic events in Mardin in 1915, and in the yet unpublished notes of Czech doctor Vlasta Kálalová di-Lotti from Turkey and Iraq.
