The miniature study Too Human Theology? comes with a significant goal: to present the intellectual work of the 20th-century Belgian theologian Edward Schillebeeckx as an anthropological concept, as a word about humanity and to humanity. The author presents Schillebeeckx's masterful analysis of the interrelationship between experience, interpretation, and critique, which describes how humans read the world and how they experience it. The key concept here is experience. For Schillebeeckx, it opens the way to religious meanings, as it anchors them in what we experience, what we understand, what we cannot escape from, and what remains forever human for us. For the author, experience is a heuristic tool for identifying the plane of the universally human, religious, and mystical. The structured approach shows reality as always more complex than any ideas about it, religiosity as a deep dimension of humanity, and theological language as boundary-crossing and referential. God is not an object here. Religious experience means experiencing the world in a way that does not strip it of its character of mystery.
