Beschreibung
The book Russia and the Slavic World: Centuries of Coexistence and Conflicts continues a series of publications from the Young Slavists Conference associated with the Faculty of Arts at Charles University. Seventeen texts from participants of the fifteenth conference edition from six countries (Czech Republic, Croatia, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia) are divided into three main sections (Language, Literature, History and Culture). Linguistically (Czech, Croatian, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Serbian) and thematically diverse scholarly studies address various levels and manifestations of the complex relationships between Russia and the Slavic area. The published contributions show that Russia influenced smaller nations not only through military power and political influence but also through its culture and language, without which the modern development of Slavic ethnicities is hard to imagine. The Eastern Slavic empire also entered the social and cultural context in its mythologized form as a space where other nations repeatedly projected their own goals and plans, and last but not least, it found itself beyond its own borders as a significant and active emigration.
