Beschreibung
The publication "Māori: Society, Culture, Language" represents the second volume from the literary legacy of Václav A. Černý. Since 1968, he focused on the study of Polynesian cultures, languages, and oral traditions. He compiled dictionaries and translated modern literature as well as traditional folk literature. This volume contains an extensive Czech-Māori and Māori-Czech dictionary, a dictionary of Māori mythology, excerpts from novels, and proverbs. Included in the publication is a CD with samples of Māori songs that Václav Černý presented in Czechoslovak Radio in the 1980s. The book features five studies that complement information about traditional Māori society, culture, language, and mythology. Its authors are Gabriela Jungová Vrtalová, Ondřej Pivoda, Martin Rychlík, and Martin Soukup.
